  • Ionization

The process by which a neutral (uncharged) molecule gains or loses a charged particle called a proton (H⁺) and becomes a charged particle called an ion. A molecule with a positive charge is a cation; a molecule with a negative charge is an anion. pKa: A number that tells you how easily an acid gives away its proton. A low pKa means a strong acid (gives away its proton easily). A high pKa means a weak acid (holds on to its proton).
